Sally Ride Science Festival
The mission of the Sally Ride Science Festival, which began in 2006, is to encourage middle school girls towards careers in STEM careers (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). In 2006 Sally Ride was the featured speaker.
Sally Ride Science Festivals bring together hundreds of middle school students for a festive day of science and socializing. Parents and teachers are welcome too!
Each festival features an inspiring talk by a woman astronaut; workshops for students given by local astronomers, microbiologists and engineers; workshops for parents and teachers on ways to support students' interests in science and math; and a street fair with hands-on activities, booths, food, and music.
Sally Ride Science is an innovative science content company dedicated to supporting girls' and boys' interests in science, math and technology. We believe that when children are encouraged to pursue their interests they are inspired to think about their futures, and are better prepared to pursue a wide range of exciting opportunities in high school, college and beyond.
Dr. Sally Ride, best known as America's first woman in space, founded Sally Ride Science in 2001 to create quality programs and products that educate, entertain, engage and inspire.
A key part of our corporate mission is to make a difference in girls' lives, and in society's perceptions of their roles in technical fields. Our publications and out-of-school programs bring science to life and show kids that science is creative, collaborative, fascinating and fun.
